- Outdoor Yule celebration and the Park Ranger |
Dec 22 2009
My family performed a small, outdoor Yule celebration ritual last night at Joshua Tree National Park in southern California. We wanted to make it a unique experience for ourselves and our children and it was wonderful. The picture on the left is our altar at the park. The experience we had made me think of [...]
- Discovering Shadow |
Sep 23 2009
It is commonly known among Wiccans and Pagans that we all have a shadow-side to our personality. There are a few rituals that work with this, but we nearly always focus on developing our light-side. Our Shadow is normally merely something to reduce in ourselves or simply put up with. Since Mabon is a period [...]
- Children’s Ostara Ritual |
Apr 05 2009
Though it’s been a couple weeks since Ostara, I wanted to talk about how our family celebrated. I got a great idea about doing Ostara Eggs from Patrick McCleary’s blog, Pagan Dad. Ostara Eggs We colored the eggs with frozen blueberries, paprika, frozen spinach and grape juice concentrate. We didn’t strain the colorants, as some [...]
- Happy American Midsummer! |
Jul 04 2008
All human societies have a relatively standard set of holidays that mark the passage of time. The solstices and equinoxes are the primary ones marked, but there are a few others. The interesting thing is that as different societies developed, the dates and methods of observation developed differently. For example, in the United States, July [...]
- Storms of Balance: Part II |
Mar 21 2008
Yesterday was Ostara, the Vernal Equinox. It was a very strange and eventful day, reminding me of a previous article I wrote last year about the Equinox, “Storms of Balance“. It was a day of 7-9 inches of wet snowfall here in Aberdeen (after many days with the temperature in the 40s and 50s). The [...]

The newborn sun has arrived!
Now is the time to stop introspecting and start putting energy and action toward your goals. In my previous article on the Dark Night of the Year, I mentioned using that time for looking within yourself and evaluating what you’ve done during the previous year. I also talked about developing your resolutions for the next year. Now is the time to make those resolutions final and start acting on them.
- Dark Night of the Year |
Nov 24 2007
This time of year, between Samhain and Yule, is a difficult time. It is a time when most plants (at least in the north) have died, animals are hunkering down for winter, and the universe looks inward. It is the dark night of the year.
- Verlitha Solistum |
Jun 21 2007
Today is Verlitha Solistum, the Summer Solstice, when the solar power is at its height in the Northern Hemisphere. It is called many names, including Litha, Midsummer and the Feast of St. John. It is a day of bright joy and a day of reckoning. It is time to face the Almighty Father and receive [...]
- Storms of Balance |
Mar 25 2007
The Equinox is a time of storms and balance. It is said in the Northern Hemisphere that if March comes in like a lion it will go out like a lamb, and vice-versa. Periods of Balance, like times around the Equinoxes, are very turbulent. Seasons of the earth cycle between the extremes of summer and [...]
